Embedding Gale e-books

Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL) / Gale e-books
A great place to begin your research process: to narrow your topic, get background information and to gather keywords. Encyclopedias and reference books are not generally used as cited sources in college-level research papers (usually you'll need to take what you find in an encyclopedia and head out to the databases for more advanced sources).
Subject coverage includes: art, biography, business, education, environment, history, information and publishing, law, literature, medicine, multicultural studies, nation and world, religion, science, social science, and technology.

Gale e-books (formerly known as the Gale Virtual Reference Library) houses both an enormous reference library (reference, encyclopedias, dictionaries, etc) as well as college-level research and reading books. You can use persistent URLs from Gale e-books, or integrate the Gale app into your Canvas shell.

Gale ebooks permalinks (chapter or book) - video instructions

If you install the Gale ebook app to your Canvas shell, students will not need to authenticate in to view any chapters or ebooks. Before you begin this app installation, you'll need a "Shared Secret" - please contact the library at erin.duane@solano.edu or scclibrary@solano.edu to get this code.

1. In your Canvas Settings, click on APPS.

2. Click on VIEW APP CONFIGURATIONS.

3. Click the blue "+APP" button

4. A box will appear; change the "Configuration Type" from Manual Entry to "By URL"

NAME- Gale ebooks
CONFIGURATION URL- https://link.gale.com/apps/configuration.xml?product=GVRL&lms=canvas
CONSUMER KEY - (email erin.duane@solano.edu for this code)
SHARED SECRET - (email erin.duane@solano.edu for this code)
