Frequently Asked Questions

Most SCC databases and the library's online catalog are available from your home computer or at an off-campus location.  The library's article databases (journals, magazines, newspapers, e-books, etc) are accessible from off campus with your MySolano username and password using our built in proxy server.

If you need help accessing library materials, please contact us.

Students in need of textbooks on reserve, chromebooks, or calculators should call or email the library for options to obtain the material needed. Please have the exact information for your book: title, edition number, author, course the book is assigned to, and course instructor.

The library is offering curbside pickup for available text-reserves, chromebooks, and calculators. E-textbooks are also available for many classes. Information on these options is on our textbooks page.

If you have a Solano College or Napa County/Napa Valley College library card, you are already able to check out books and you can use your SCC library card at our partner Napa County libraries.

To get a new library card, apply online first, and then bring the following to the your appointment with our Circulation staff:

  • your Driver's License and
  • your SCC student ID or proof of enrollment from the Office of Admissions & Records

Use Your library card account (via the Library's catalog) for information on:

  • Materials you have checked out
  • Materials you have placed on hold & are waiting for
  • Any fines you may have accrued

Please make sure you logout of your account when you are finished!

Fines for overdue books are 20 cents per item per day. Fines for overdue reserves vary by material type: from 25 cents to $5.00 per item per day.Abuse of textbook-reserve check out periods (including chromebooks, laptops, calculators, bones/minerals kits, etc) may result in (up to a) non-refundable $300 fine and suspension of borrowing privileges as well as a block placed on your student account at Admissions & Records. Fines may be paid at the Circulation Desk, by cash or check only.

The Library's Research Instruction Room (Bib Lab) is primarily used for library research instruction and ASTC workshops. When not utilized for its primary purpose, the room may be reserved by current SCC students, faculty and staff. Room reservation is subject to approval. We have one quiet study room that is drop-in only and may not be reserved. During the COVID-19 building closure, our rooms are unavailable.
